Meet Sam
Sam has over 20 years of experience in the art of wood making. Each piece is created with care, blending traditional techniques with a genuine love for the work. Passionate about shaping wood into lasting designs, Sam enjoys turning raw materials into something both beautiful and long lasting. He puts his all into each design making sure each customer has exactly what they want and need.
Functional Wood was first started in 2013 in Sam’s garage here in Redmond, Oregon. It began as a hobby but blossomed into a full-time career in the coming years. He is so grateful for the opportunities his community has given him!
When Sam is not working you can find him enjoying time with his family. He has four kids and two bonus kids. They enjoy hiking, water activities or just sitting around a bonfire sipping on lemonades and good conversations.

Andrea is a highly experienced woodworker with years of hands-on craftsmanship and a deep respect for quality and detail. A devoted family man with a family of four, he brings patience, integrity, and a kind heart into everything he builds.
Jimmy is a passionate woodworker with a sharp eye for detail and a natural talent for the craft. He brings humor to the shop and approaches each project with care and creativity.
Functional Wood is also a family ran business- with Sam’s soon to be wife Larissa on the phones and daughter Riley in the shop, there is never a dull moment at the shop!
